David Elderton is a creative experimenter and builder. He lives on an island near Vancouver in Canada working in the e-bike business delivering high quality custom e-bikes all across Canada. He is also in the progress of building his second electric boat. As he is experimenting and playing with ideas a lot, there is also many results. He shares them on open platforms and thus also helps others to get ahead with their projects.

This episode is a long one. David and I talk about how he started his e-bike business, based on his enthusiasm for experimenting, building and for the swift way of e-bikes. We then cover the (nearly) all-solar powered household and get to talk about electric boats as well as his next projects. In the end we talk about sharing ideas, experiments, results and failures.

Check out the The 2pt5 website for all the links and extras mentioned in the episode on https://the2pt5.net/david-elderton-creative-experimenter-and-builder-about-e-bikes-e-boats-e-cars-all-solar-houses-and-sharing-of-ideas-and-experiment-results/

--

Innovators from around the globe share the highs and lows of an innovator's life, their motivation and creative passions as well as their favorite methods, tools, conferences and ideas.

The 2pt5 - https://the2pt5.net - conversations connecting innovators podcast is hosted in Baden-Württemberg in the Southwest of Germany by Klaus Reichert - https://www.klausreichert.de

In a time when EVs weren’t a thing and people weren’t familiar with the technology. With knowledge from his previous jobs, AutoCAD and an enthusiasm for car conversions, he converted a Volkswagen Passat into an electric car in his California garage.

After about a year and many experiments later, his commuter car was ready for the road. Since then, he has driven the Passat daily more than 90.000 miles, always improving and perfecting things step by step. The car he built in his garage landed him a job at Tesla, when it wasn’t the car company it is today. In the episode, Eric is talking about his insights into innovating, not just in the mobility sector.
Jen Zeuner and Anne Keller have found a home in Fruita, Colorado, USA, a rural town of appr. 12.000 people in the Rocky Mountains. They have built their home on great Pizza and Mountain Biking. And they have built a large community. Over fifteen years ago, they saw the necessity for a place for people to come together and took to work. Their vision was to create a place to hang out before or after hitting the trails to welcome people, have a good time, share stories.

Their Hot Tomato place is not just any of the 77.000 pizza restaurants in the US (I didn't find the total worldwide). They have developed their own very special recipes and ways to do business.

And many people get it: if you look at the restaurant’s many ratings of the more than 10.000 fans on Facebook, you see only praise, basically all five stars. Some random quotes are:

"Best pizza ever! Best employees and atmosphere, too. We love this place!"

"Great"

"Yummy"

"Delicious"

"Amazing"

This list could go on and on - Okay, let’s do some more:

"Awesome"

"Love"

"Perfect pizza"

"Even the leftovers next morning were good" - I mean who likes cold pizza?

It takes lots of innovative spirit to get there. And a way with people to built such a great community around it.

This got me interested in the Hot Tomato. Besides the pizza.

Get all the links, transcript, videos via the show notes on the website.

The 2pt5 - conversations connecting innovators podcast is hosted in Baden-Württemberg, Germany by Klaus Reichert - https://the2pt5.net

Marty Neumeier is an ideas man and a teacher in the best sense of the word.

He has written several books about branding, creativity and innovation which became classics in their field. Marty is full of energy and ideas, and the conviction and hope that his ideas truely add value for the readers or his course participants (he just added Masterclasses to his line of focused business books).

Marty Neumeiers's Books

Marty is no fan of business BS. He cuts straight to the point without oversimplifying things. "I have just tried to make it simple" is one of the hardest thing to do, dodging the irrelevant to focus on the important. THE BRAND GAP (2003) and ZAG (2006) come to mind instantly. The phrase “A brand isn’t what you say it is—it’s what they say it is.” is common knowledge now. In his third book, THE DESIGNFUL COMPANY, he addressed how business leaders can build a culture of nonstop innovation. One of his secrets: "If you wanna innovate, you gotta design."

Masterclasses

In his live Masterclasses, he is bringing his teaching to a next level: the classes are for professionals that put in an effort and want to evolve their knowledge, networks and careers.

We are talking about his love for Mark Knopflers music, the influcence of Jedi Mind Tricks and music producer Gramatik on his development as a musician.

Immex is a self taught guitar player, that started with passion for music and with the help of his community as he has a lot of friends in bands, a network he draws upon often.

He likes hip-hop and rock’n'roll and is situated in between genres.

He actually prefers this sometimes uncomfortable place between two chairs and accepts it as a source of inspiration.

As an Innovator Immex is switching between classical Guitar and a Laptop as his favorite instruments to create music.

Today he is multi instrumental, playing also drums, base guitar, keyboards and even sings.

His beats are used on major Youtube channels such as Unbox Therapy with more than 15 mill. fans

He is a master of the computer as a complex instrument but he loves playing the guitar and keeps one around all the time. He again supports his friends bands regularly in their shows.

He has build his own style as a musician and a producer and believes he is still on a journey with more to come.

Immex is using the digital platforms to his advantage to address a global audience from his hometown in Macedonia.

In our conversation Immex also talks about the right place and time to be creative and about the Vision that starts his projects.

His dream is to play with Mark Knopfler from the Dire Straights.

Immex is also the creator of this show's theme song.

This is the first episode. Starting the podcast with a conversation with a musician seemed appropriate. The bandwidth of the creative as well as the commercial process a musician has to cover is enormous and serves as a good example for innovators I think.
