#137 Interview on how to achieve the EU Green Deal Requirement of 25% use of recycled materials

22.08.2024 8 min Staffel 5 Episode 94

Zusammenfassung & Show Notes

Maybe more a fact than a trend. The EU Green Deal requires the plastic manufacturing industry to use 25% recycled materials, for example, in automotive parts.

This poses a huge problem because recycled materials can have a lot of deviations in their processing behavior.

In this video podcast, Arne Büttner, Sales Engineer of sensXPERT, introduced their innovative technology to manage these challenges to Ilkay Özkisaoglu, Co-Founder of Composites Lounge. At the forefront of their AI solution is an efficient and cost-efficient production.

Please get in touch with Phil and Cornelia Beyer of sensXPERT during the upcoming CAMX 2024 show. At their booth QQ34, you can drop your business card and win a free material characterization test.

In addition, Alexander Chaloupka will be holding a presentation at the ICS on September 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. on the Innovation Stage. His topic will be "Cost-Efficient and High-Quality Composite Parts with Intelligent Process Control Technology".

Finally, as this interview ends with our JEC Forum DACH 2024 outro, you may also meet with Dominik Riescher of sensXPERT.

Come alongside us and listen to the latest in process deeptech in North America, UK and the DACH Region.

So wonderful good afternoon, dear LinkedIn community and composites experts out there and Composites Lounge members. This week was a long, very busy week. As you know, I've been to Hannover Messe. I've been to Techtextil, and today I'm diving deep into a deep tech company. I'm here together with sensXPERT and my guest is Arne Büttner, and I have a few questions to Arne. After Arne, I will speak also to Cornelia Beyer, who is the CEO of sensXPERT and of course to Alexander about the solutions they are providing. First of all, let us introduce yourself to our community. What is your background and how did it come that you are here at sensXPERT? -I'm Arne, sales engineer at sensXPERT since last year. I'm from my background in industrial engineer, studied at the TU Kaiserslautern. I'm now almost a decade in the composite and plastic industry, collecting a lot of knowledge, collecting and seeing a lot of problems where people struggling with getting reliable process, having efficient process. And this is what finally took me here. So we have with Arne the technical side strongly. And if you look at the markets, Arne, right now. We have been at JEC in Paris already. Which trends do you see in the upcoming years, and which roles do they play for sensXPERT. -Maybe more a fact than a trend. I mean, we have the EU Green Deal where we know that the industry, the plastic manufacturing industry mainly in the automotive has to use 25% of recycled materials. And we know that with these materials, there's a lot of deviation in the processing behavior, and our technology can contribute to get manage these challenges and still have an efficient production, cost efficient production, even with these more demanding materials on the process side. So it's just been one month after we've come home from JEC World, Arne. What impulses have you taken from JEC World? I mean, it was an exciting show for us, had good talks, and you see a lot of new technologies coming there, a lot of topics focusing on sustainability. And this is also a thing where we can contribute with our technology, making processes more efficient, more sustainable by saving energy. -At JEC World, you had a booth together with Bayern Innovativ. What was, Arne, some of the questions that were discussed and what was the main topic there? -A lot of people ask us about the materials we can analyze. And especially with the carbon fibers, people would expect that this is a material which is hard to analyze. But actually this is one of our key factors or key benefits we can offer, because we can analyze these composite - carbon composite - materials and also make this production more efficient. Now, what is the extraordinary value that you are providing the composites industry on the one hand, and the plastics industry on the other hand. -I mean on the composite materials, we often have long cycle times, for instance, with the autoclave curing, and we have kind of expensive materials. And by reducing the cycle time, optimizing the cycle time, we can even realize a cost benefit for our customers, which they would say which is a big value for them. On the plastic side, we have shorter cycle time. For instance for the injection molding. And there we have coming with the more and more recycled material also problems with, with plastic or material deviations. And there we can also contribute by measuring the curing behavior and automatically steer the process according to the deviations that come from the material. What an enticing solution then, Arne! So let me ask you then, who are then your typical customers for these values? Who are they? Which market sectors? Which target groups are you going after? -There's a huge variety of industries and customers that can benefit from our solution. Every customer or company that do plastic processing can benefit from it, whether it's automotive, aviation or space, whether they do injection molding, compression molding or, for instance, RTM and autoclave curing. And the main benefits is reduction in cycle time and scrap reduction. And with this, of course, it's a more sustainable process we can offer by reducing the energy consumption. The question now becomes, of course, what are the latest, hottest projects that you are currently leading at sensXPERT? We just established our technology to the or install the technology to the series manufacturing in the aviation case. There we observe the RTM process make it more efficient. But another example is the automotive industry, where we are installed on an injection molding machine to make this process also more efficient. So at the end, our sensor technology is about quality control during the actual manufacturing inside the mold for each individual cycle. We enhance the manufacturing process in real time. So it's a real time analysis and also real time communication with the machine to optimize the cycle time. And at the end everything is about efficiency increase and scrap reduction. -Finally, as is traditional in my LinkedIn videos, Arne. What is your final call to action? What should the viewer do after they've watched this video? Reach out to us. So, we are there. Me, especially as a sales engineer. If you are struggling with your processes, if you want to make it more efficient sensXPERT is the right way to go. So please reach out to us. -So thank you, Arne, for all these insights from a technical standpoint, and I'm really happy to share this information with our community. And now we will have more interviews to come up soon. Stay tuned.
