#80 AZL Droptower Test of Carbon Composites (English)
20.05.2023 15 min Staffel 5 Episode 36
Zusammenfassung & Show Notes
After having met the German Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) this week during my #composites360onTour at the 4th lightweighting summit at the HANNOVER MESSE my next stop takes me to AZL Aachen GmbH | Excellence in Lightweight Production
Last month we conducted our Composites Lounge conference 4.0 at their premises on the RWTH Aachen Campus. During a brainstorming the AZL lightweight engineers, designers and experts offered me to inspect the emergency features of composites.
Moreoften than not R&D aims to simulate a smooth operating of parts that is aimed at the longevity of it.
But, what if composites are under threat?
Risks that in particular EV batteries face are
High impact by roadway objects like for example stones, rocks or metal residuals during fast drives on motorways
Fire &
Blast
The second issue is that most testing is done straight forward.
In this video you will learn why an "angled" impact is more realistic and why it is a standard operating procedure with the droptower adapted innovatively by AZL.
Watch and witness the angled impact test conducted at the Institut für Kraftfahrzeuge (ika) - RWTH Aachen University in this video and learn from AZL why "darts" are not exclusively used in sports only.
Tomorrow, we will be making a fire and blast test. Also in this case there is a lot to consider. What these other variables are will be revealed in tomorrow's video here on LinkedIn.
For now we wish you an informational session with the droptower test.
Do you test your materials for crashes?
