Hula Hoop goes Podcast – The Story behind Aneta (English)

Aneta comes from rural Czech Republic, where a hoop community barely exists and built an entire hoop life out of it: as a performer, as the founder of her label Hooplanet, and as a teacher who travels the world. Recorded in April at "Hooping at the Sea" in Kühlungsborn, this episode tells how a single hoop turned a passion into a profession. 💛

Some people tell an entire story through their movement, long before the first word is spoken.

 

That's exactly how it was for me with Aneta. 

I first saw her on stage at Swhoop in Bristol, before we had even properly met, and her performance completely captivated me. I could hardly believe how much expression, lightness, and real skill there is in the way she moves with the hoop. 

 

We recorded this episode in April at the hoop convention "Hooping at the Sea" in Kühlungsborn, right in the middle of workshops, shows, and so many beautiful encounters.

 

Aneta grew up in rural Czech Republic, an area with hardly any alternative sports and no hoop scene at all. At her very first festival she saw a girl with a hoop and spontaneously bought her first one right there. She was hooked from the very first moment. 

 

Because she couldn't find suitable hoops anywhere in the Czech Republic or Europe, she simply started making her own. What began as a workaround grew into her label Hooplanet, through which she now creates hoops and thoughtfully designed accessories while intentionally supporting other artists from her home country.

 

In our conversation, Aneta shares how deeply rural life and the lack of a community shaped her very own hoop style, why she travels to conventions all over the world to feel connected, and how she experienced her years on the road through Canada and New Zealand, hula hooping in front of mountain backdrops included.

 

Near the end of our conversation, Aneta talks about her big dream: to teach a small group of hoopers for a whole week as the only teacher at Hoop’n’Hike, right in the middle of the Norwegian nature. A retreat between mountains, hiking, and hooping, entirely in her element, because Aneta is just as passionate a hiker as she is a hooper. 

 

A little note on that: the 2026 edition of Hoop'n'Hike, which Aneta talks about here with so much anticipation, sadly had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

 

Aneta is a Czech hoop artist, performer, teacher, and the founder of Hooplanet, a brand creating handmade hoops and thoughtfully designed hoop accessories. Growing up in a rural part of the Czech Republic, far away from an established hoop community, she developed much of her practice independently and later began travelling internationally to hoop conventions, teach, perform, and connect with other hoopers.

Her hoop journey has also taken her through Canada and New Zealand, where she travelled by van and combined hooping with her love of mountains and nature. Today, she runs Hooplanet, performs professionally, teaches workshops and online tutorials, and continues to build connections within the international hoop community.

 

To me, Aneta is a wonderful example of how much can grow when you follow your own path, even without a community on your doorstep. Her calm, clear way of explaining things, and the honesty with which she speaks about solitude, travelling, and her dreams, moved me deeply.

Zum ersten Mal habe ich Aneta bei der Swhoop in Bristol gesehen, noch bevor wir uns persönlich kennengelernt haben. Sie stand dort auf der Bühne und ihre Performance hat mich vollkommen begeistert. Ich konnte kaum glauben, wie viel Ausdruck, Leichtigkeit und echtes Können in ihrem Spiel mit dem Reifen steckt. 

 

Aufgenommen haben wir diese Folge im April bei der Hoop Convention „Hooping at the Sea" in Kühlungsborn, mitten zwischen Workshops, Shows und ganz vielen Begegnungen.

Aneta ist im ländlichen Tschechien zu Hause, in einer Gegend, in der es kaum alternative Sportarten und schon gar keine Hoop-Szene gibt. Bei ihrem allerersten Festival sah sie eine Frau mit einem Reifen und kaufte sich dort spontan ihren ersten Hoop. Vom ersten Moment an war sie süchtig. Weil sie in Tschechien und in ganz Europa keine passenden Hoops finden konnte, begann sie kurzerhand, ihre eigenen zu bauen. Aus dieser Notlösung wurde ihr Label Hooplanet, für das sie heute Hoops und durchdachtes Zubehör fertigt und dabei bewusst andere Künstler:innen aus ihrer Heimat unterstützt.

 

Im Gespräch erzählt Aneta, wie sehr das Leben auf dem Land und die fehlende Community ihren ganz eigenen Hoopstil geprägt haben, warum sie zu Conventions in die ganze Welt reist, um sich verbunden zu fühlen, und wie sie ihre Jahre auf Reisen durch Kanada und Neuseeland erlebt hat, Hula Hoop vor Bergkulissen inklusive.

 

Am Ende unseres Gesprächs erzählt Aneta von ihrem großen Traum: als alleinige Trainerin eine ganze Woche lang eine kleine Gruppe von Hoopys mitten in der norwegischen Natur beim Hoop’n’Hike zu unterrichten. Ein Retreat zwischen Bergen, Wandern und Reifen, ganz in ihrem Element, denn Aneta ist genauso leidenschaftliche Wanderin wie Hooperin. 

 

Ein kurzer Hinweis dazu: Die für August 2026 geplante Ausgabe von Hoop'n'Hike, von der Aneta hier voller Vorfreude spricht, musste aufgrund unvorhergesehener Umstände leider abgesagt werden.

 

Aneta ist eine tschechische Hoop-Künstlerin, Performerin, Trainerin und Gründerin von Hooplanet, einer Marke für handgemachte Hoops und durchdacht gestaltetes Hoop-Zubehör.

Für mich ist Aneta ein wunderbares Beispiel dafür, wie viel entstehen kann, wenn man seinen eigenen Weg geht, auch ohne Community vor der Haustür. Ihre ruhige, klare Art, Dinge zu erklären, und die Ehrlichkeit, mit der sie über Einsamkeit, Reisen und ihre Träume spricht, haben mich sehr berührt. 

Ich bin unglaublich glücklich, dass ich sie bei Hula Hoop goes Podcast begrüßen durfte.
