Hula Hoop goes Podcast – The Story behind Laura Roudge

Laura is one of those people who are simply impossible not to like. I first met her several years ago in Berlin while she was taking classes with Chris, and it didn't take long before she became a beloved part of the Berlin hoop community.

Today, Laura is back in Paris, where she runs the hoop company Les Pin-Hoop (a playful mix of Pin-Ups and Hoops), teaches at Loren's hoop school Hoopera School, performs flow arts with Compagnie Luminescence by Lunart-X, and has made the courageous decision to leave her career as a software engineer behind to fully dedicate herself to the worlds of Hula Hoop, performance, and choreography.

It's a story about how a single hoop bought at a festival in Portugal can become the starting point for an entirely new life—one filled with creativity, community, performances, and opportunities you never could have planned for.

Laura gehört zu den Menschen, die man in der Hoop-Szene einfach gernhaben muss. Kennengelernt habe ich sie vor einigen Jahren in Berlin bei Chris' Kursen und viele von uns aus der Berliner Hoop-Community haben sie schnell ins Herz geschlossen.

 

Heute lebt Laura wieder in Paris, führt die Hoop Company Les Pin-Hoop (ein Mix zwischen Pin-Ups and Hoops) unterrichtet an der Hoop Schule von Loren Hoopera School, performed Flow Arts mit der Compagnie Luminescence von Lunart-x und hat den mutigen Schritt gewagt, ihren Beruf als Softwareentwicklerin hinter sich zu lassen, um sich ganz der Welt von Hula Hoop, Performance und Choreografie zu widmen.

Some people become part of a community almost effortlessly. Laura is one of those people.

I first met her several years ago in Berlin while she was taking classes with Chris. It didn't take long before she became a beloved part of the Berlin hoop community. Her calm nature, beautiful dance-inspired hoop style, and warm presence left a lasting impression on many of us.

That's why we missed her when she moved back to Paris.

Today, Laura runs the hoop company Les Pin-Hoop (a playful combination of Pin-Ups and Hoops), teaches at Loren's hoop school Hoopera School, and performs flow arts with Compagnie Luminescence by Lunart-X. Yet her life originally looked very different. After a background in dance, she became a software engineer before Hula Hoop gradually became more than a hobby and eventually turned into a full-time career.

Laura lives and teaches in Paris at Hoopera School, runs the hoop company Les Pin-Hoop, and performs professionally with Compagnie Luminescence in stage productions, walking acts, and flow arts shows.

She first discovered Hula Hoop in 2018 at Boom Festival in Portugal. Through the flow arts community in San Francisco, intensive online learning during the pandemic, and hoop classes in both Paris and Berlin, her journey eventually led her to where she is today: teaching, performing, and turning her passion into her profession.

Manche Menschen begegnen einem nur für kurze Zeit und hinterlassen sofort einen positiv bleibenden Eindruck.

Kennengelernt habe ich Laura vor einigen Jahren in Berlin bei Chris' Kursen. Viele von uns aus der Berliner Hoop-Community haben sie schnell ins Herz geschlossen. Mit ihrer besonnenen Art, ihrem tänzerischen Hoopstil und ihrer angenehmen Präsenz blieb sie vielen in Erinnerung. Umso mehr haben wir sie vermisst, als sie wieder zurück nach Paris gezogen ist.

Heute führt Laura die Hoop Company Les Pin-Hoop (eine Wortspiel-Kombination aus Pin-Ups und Hoops), unterrichtet an Lorens Hoop-Schule Hoopera School und performt Flow Arts mit der Compagnie Luminescence von Lunart-X. Dabei sah ihr Leben ursprünglich ganz anders aus: Nach einer Karriere im Tanzbereich wurde sie Softwareentwicklerin, bevor Hula-Hoop immer mehr Raum einnahm und schließlich zu ihrem Beruf wurde.

Über die Flow-Arts-Community in San Francisco und intensive Online-Lernphasen während der Pandemie und Hoop Classes in Paris und Berlin führte ihr Weg schließlich dorthin, wo sie heute unterrichtet, performt und ihre Leidenschaft zum Beruf gemacht hat. Ein wahrhaft internationales Hoop-Leben. 😊 Ich bin gespannt, wo ihr Weg noch hingehen wird.
