Description & Show Notes
If like me you enjoy explaining complex things in a way that people instantly understand what you are trying to tell them, then you might want to risk falling in love. Falling in love, with analogies. Because analogies to my mind are the little sister - the cute little sister - of storyteling. In this episode I share with you the 6S's of successful analogies.
Communication Challenge for this episode:
Make a list of all the things that you feel comfortable, passionate or knowledgeable speaking about on the left of the page. On the right hand side of the page, make a list of the projects, problems, processes etc that you would like to explain more succinctly, using a relatable example. Now see if you can link two of them and come up with a 2-3 liner anecdote.
Be brave and inspire other listeners to take the communication challenge by sharing it with the hashtag #expertsspeakenglish on your prefered social media, extra points for visuals, gifs or a video and a huge hug from me for breaking free of your comfort zone.
The Six Ss of Amazing Analogies
1. Politically correct - situations and things, not people
2. Keep It Simple, real and relatable
3. Silence - padding before and afterwards
4. Someone you respect to give constructive feedback
5. Synch your actions, gestures and motions with your message or anecdote
6. Supercharge it with visuals or video
